The Government of New Zealand run website New Zealand WW100, has announced that those wishing to attend the Centenary Anzac Day Commemorative Services at Gallipoli, Turkey, in 2015, will be selected by ballot.
The Gallipoli landings which began on 25th April 1915, was the first major combat action that the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (Anzac) saw.
The landings along the Dardanelles were part of a plan to invade the Ottoman Empire.
The landings were successfully repelled, resulting in high levels of casualties, particularly for Anzac troops.
Maximum capacity at the commemorations in 2015 will be set at 10,500. Of those tickets, 8,000 will be allocated to Australian citizens and 2,000 to citizens of New Zealand. The remaining 500 will be used by Turkish officials and VIPs.
