The Durand Group explores the Goodman Subway, dug during the Battle of Vimy Ridge

The Durand Group – an organisation dedicated to researching subterranean military history – has recorded footage of its exploration of a First World War tunnel.

The footage from May 2000 shows the organisation’s proect on the Goodman Subway (a 1721 metre communication tunnel dug to support the Canadian assault on Vimy Ridge on 9th April 1917).

The expedition uncovered the marks of many men from the Canadian Mounted Rifles battalions that spent the night there prior to the battle.
