The Fields of Remembrance Trust in New Zealand was established in 2012 and aims to honour those from New Zealand that fought and died during the First World War.
The Trust is establishing Fields of Remembrance in the four main cities throughout April (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin) in time for Anzac Day on April 25th.
Each cross will represent a soldier or nurse who died in during the war in 1915, and more crosses will be added to the fields each year. Over 18,000 New Zealanders died during the First World War and over 100,000 served.
The Remembrance Trust is helping to spread Fields all across the country and has dispatched 78,000 crosses so far.
In a joint venture with the Ministry of Education, the Trust provides crosses, resource packs and activities to schools across New Zealand, allowing children to learn about soldiers that served from their area.
