Russian President to inaugurate monument in France dedicated to First World War soldiers

France Bleu reports that the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, will visit northern Rheims in France in 2014 to inaugurate a memorial dedicated to the First World War Russian Expeditionary Force.

The monument will recognise the Nivelle Offensive of 1917, which saw the Russian Expeditionary Force join an Allied offensive on the Western Front. There were large scale losses on all sides – including more than 5,000 Russian casualties.
