Professor Sir Hew Strachan tells conference of hopes for “re-appreciation of the First World War as a global phenomenon” by 2018

Professor Sir Hew Strachan, Chichele Professor of the History of War and Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, has told a conference on the Centenary of the First World War of his hopes for “a re-appreciation of the First World War as a global phenomenon”.

Professor Strachan was speaking at the Schools and the Great War Centenary Conference – held on Thursday 14th March 2013 at Wellington College in Berkshire, which was filmed by Centenary News.

In his speech, Professor Strachan emphasised that although the victories of the British Army in 1918 should not be forgotten, the global nature of the conflict, on all its fronts, must be appreciated.

Centenary News will be uploading recordings of speeches and interviews with the speakers attending the conference over the next two weeks.

We will update our Twitter and Facebook feeds to keep you informed of new content.
