‘No Glory in War 1914-1918’ campaign launch video released

The No Glory in War 1914-1918 campaign group has released a video of its launch on the 22nd May 2013.

The campaign began with an open letter criticising the British Government’s plans to mark the Centenary of the First World War.

Politicians, academics and actors signed the letter in May 2013 questioning the Prime Minister’s “plans to spend £55m on a “truly national commemoration” to mark this anniversary”.

The 49 signatories included the Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, the former Mayor of London Ken Livingstone and British actors Jude Law, Alan Rickman and Patrick Stewart.

The video of the campaign launch for No Glory in War 1914-1918 was uploaded to the Stop the War Coalition YouTube page in September 2013.

It includes a reading of the letter; a reading of Carol Ann Duffy’s poem The Last Post; and Michael Morpurgo reading Siegfried Sassoon’s A Solider’s Declaration.
