New photo book of Italian and Austro-Hungarian fortifications

A new photobook has been published featuring the remains of 18 First World War fortifications in Italy.

“I Guardiani del Silenzio” is written by Andrea Contrini and published by Edizioni Osiride.

The Italian and Austro-Hungarian fortifications are in the province of Vicenza and the neighbouring areas of Folgaria, Lavarone and Luserna.

They include those at Belvedere, Campo di Luserna, Verle, Cima Vezzena, Verena, Campolongo, Punta Corbin, and Campomolon.

The publishers say that at the photographed sites, “you can still see the war’s traces in the silence, a strong silence that you can feel even through the pictures”.

The text for the photos are in Italian, German and English.
