National Archives of Finland and Russian Historical Society agree to further co-operation

A “memorandum of cooperation” between the National Archives of Finland and the Russian Historical Society could see research projects for the Centenary of the First World War.

The memorandum was signed by Director General of the National Archive of Finland, Jussi Nuorteva, and Chairman of the Russian Historical Society, Speaker of the State Duma, Sergei Naryshkin.

Along with other memorandums of co-operation, the National Archives of Finland state the aim is “to promote discussion between Finnish and Russian history, common access points support the exchange of documents, as well as exhibitions, conferences and events”.

The Russkiy Mir Foundation is charged with “promoting understanding and peace in the world by supporting, enhancing and encouraging the appreciation of Russian language, heritage and culture’.

The Foundation described the signing of the memorandum as being set within “the framework of preparations for the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I and the 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence”.
