Irish television and radio presenter explores his father’s experiences of the First World War

Ronan McGreevy, writing for The Irish Times, reports on research carried out by Irish television and radio presenter Gay Byrne, into his father’s life and experiences during the First World War.

Mr. Byrne has made a documentary entitled My Father’s War, which explores Private Edward Byrne’s experiences of the conflict.

Private Byrne fought at the Battle of the Somme and was nearly killed at the end of the war during a cavalry charge. His son still recalls the night terrors he suffered after the war.
