‘Beyond Blackadder’: Interview by Bimringham University’s IdeasLab with historian Pierre Purseigle on the Centenary.
Project Director Lucy Vernall at Ideas Lab, University of Birmingham, interviews Pierre Purseigle, senior lecturer in Modern History at the University of Birmingham.
In the interview Purseigle and Vernall discuss his work as an expert on WW1, how he thinks the Centenary will be marked and the tension between commemoration and celebration. They also discuss WW1 in collective memory (hence the ‘beyond Blackadder’ reference) and how the legacy of the War has shaped the world as it is today.
