Hungarian Defence Ministry announces database of First World War soldier casualties “to be complete by 2018”

Politicis.hu reports the Head of the Hungarian Defence Ministry’s War Graves Conservation Department has announced that a database detailing First World War casualties will “be complete by 2018”.

“Robert Maruzs said employees are still “in the dark” regarding fallen Hungarian soldiers in WWI, but estimates are around 660,000. There are no official records, as these had been destroyed in the 1950s, so data is now compiled using Viennese sources, which could take years”.
