“Huge interest” expected in military pension records of those who fought in the Irish Easter Rising and War of Independence

The Irish Times reports that the Irish Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan, is expecting “huge interest” from the public in Irish records from the early twentieth century, which will be made available later this month.

Some 300,000 files relating to 60,000 people who received some form of the old Irish Republican Army pension will be released on the 17th January 2014.
