A WW1 shelter containing the remains and personal effects of German soldiers has been uncovered in France.
German magazine Der Spiegel reports on the discovery of the remains of 21 German troops found in an underground shelter in France. The shelter was destroyed in March 1918 and hasn’t been opened until a team of archaeologists recently excavated the site and found poignant reminders of the men that died there.
The personal and military items discovered in the shelter have thus far not been of much interest to Germany, a fact that is making the tracking down of the soldiers’ relatives difficult – despite the archaeologists having found identification tags for all the men.
