Germany denies reports it called for Britain to avoid a “celebratory” tone for the Centenary

Spiegel Online reports that the German Foreign Ministry has denied reports in the British press that it attempted to influence the tone of Britain’s Centenary plans, although acknowledges it sent an envoy to discuss them.

A spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry said: “There was no intervention of any kind in how our friends and partners intend to shape their commemoration of World War I”.
