Events held around UK to mark the first Remembrance Sunday during 2014-18 Centenary

Remembrance Sunday events are being held today at the Cenotaph in London and at memorials in cities, towns and villages throughout the UK.

This is the first Rembrance Sunday to be held during the 2014-18 Centenary.

The events are attended by politicians, military leaders, local officials, veterans, members of the armed forces and the public.

They include the laying of wreaths of poppies, and a two minutes silence at 11am. In London, there is a large televised parade of veterans down Whitehall and past the Cenotaph.

Later this evening images of poppies are to be projected on to the Big Ben tower at the UK Parliament.

There is extra security at the events around the country today following the arrest of four men on Thursday in connection with an alleged terrorist plot.
