Brighton Council has secured a grant from the EU to create a range of Centenary events and exhibitions in 2014.
A report in the Sussex Business Times announces that the city will be going ahead with a WW1 Centenary project after receiving EU funds.
Entitled “Great War Between the Lines”, the authority will use the 184,000 that it secured from the EU’s ‘2-Seas’ programme (that encourages cross-border projects across Europe) to set up exhibitions, events and learning programmes for the 2014-2018 Centenary.
Working alongside partners in France and Flanders, the city’s programme of events will be presented in various locations throughout the city including the Royal Pavilion, the city’s museum and Preston Manor. These will be complemented by a digitised archive of WW1 material and museum documents.
A council spokesman said: “EU grants are an important source of money, so we’ve put huge effort into this. The city has a very close connection to the First World war because the Pavilion was used as a military hospital for Indian soldiers.’
