British newspapers have highlighted the Communities Secretary, Eric Pickles’, comment that the Centenary of the First World War should not turn into an “anti-German, anti-Turkish festival”.
The two newspapers used the quote to lead their coverage of this morning’s announcement by the British Government on its plans to mark the Centenary of the First World War.
Mr. Pickles added that, “equally, it would be a tragedy if we forgot what happened, if we forgot why we fought, if we forgot we won”.
