Date of publication: 09/04/2013

The Australian War Memorial has started a $32 million modernisation of its First World War galleries as part of its efforts to mark the Centenary.

Dr Brendan Nelson, Director of the Australian War Memorial stated: “The Centenary of the First World War is fast approaching and the Memorial is gearing up to deliver something very special”.

“Our new First World War galleries will draw on a range of new interactive technologies that will take the Memorial far beyond the Centenary. The refurbishment will place the Memorial’s galleries at the forefront of Australia’s Centenary program.”

The first stage of redevelopment began in November 2012.

The Western Front and Sinai–Palestine galleries have now been closed for redevelopment, and will reopen in 2015.
