Australia’s Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on the Centenary, Warren Snowdon, have announced that recommendations made by the Anzac Centenary Board are to be supported by an extra $25 million of funding.
The extra $25 million increases the total to $108.5 million, after $83.5 million was promised last to mark the Centenary of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
One project adopted by the Australian Government on the Board’s recommendation is the development of an “interactive large-scale travelling exhibition”, which will tour Australian towns and cities to “provide an opportunity for communities to share the Anzac spirit and leave their own personal Anzac story through the interactive state-of-the-art wall that will be trucked around the country”.
A total of $10 million dollars has been committed to the “travelling exhibition”. It will utilise “the latest technology to share our Anzac story [which] will mean young people can learn first-hand about the contributions of so many brave men and women who proudly service our country”, as well as provide an opportunity for “many people in rural and regional Australia” to engage with the 100 year anniversary.
