The tin-roofed wooden hut is to receive HLF money in time for the Centenary.
The Craven Lane Hall in Southam is believed to be the last surviving WW1 barracks hut left in England. It was in danger of being demolished to make way for flats but has been saved by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to begin its restoration.
The Craven Lane Hall management committee in charge of protecting the hut hopes that this initial grant of 24,700- a “first round pass” in the application for funding process- will progress to a full grant in order that they can proceed with the full restoration of the hut (estimated to cost 249,000) in time for the Centenary.
