The National Army Museum has opened an exhibition that is dedicated to the Woman’s Army Auxiliary Corps.
In 1917, the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) were formed to free up valuable and experienced soldiers from the rear areas for front line service. Women took up many roles, from working in the munitions factories to becoming bus and train conductors. This involvement in the war effort helped bring about equal rights and empowerment in the labour market after the war.
