The Choirs of the British and German Parliaments have sung together in London to commemorate he Centenary of the First World War.
They performed Mendelssohn’s Lobesang, the Hymn of Praise, at Westminster Hall, the oldest of the buildings which make up the Palace of Westminster.
The event, on 9th July 2014, also marked the 300th anniversary of the Hanoverian succession to the British throne.
The German Bundestag Choir joined its Westminster counterpart for a concert aimed at demonstrating the friendship between Germany and the UK and the opportunities for cultural exchange between the two countries.
Founded 14 years ago, the Parliament Choir has about 100 members, drawn mainly from the ranks of the House of Lords, the House of Commons and parliamentary staff.
It’s conducted by Simon Over, former Director of Music at both St Margaret’s Church, Westminster, and the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft in the Palace of Westminster.
