Professor Sir Hew Strachan, All Souls College, Oxford University
Lecture: The ideas of war, 1914
Professor Sir Hew Strachan is Chichele Professor of the History of War at Oxford University and Fellow of All Souls College. He has authored numerous titles on the First World War, including The First World War: Volume 1: To Arms.

Dr. Martin Pugh, former Professor, Newcastle University
Lecture: Women and the Great War
Between 1974 and 1999 Dr. Pugh was successively lecturer, senior lecturer and professor of modern British history at Newcastle University. His latest book is Britain: Unification and Disintegration, a study of national identity in Britain.

Lecture: The experiences of junior officers at the front
John Lewis-Stempel is a historian and author. His works include Six Weeks: The Short and Gallant Life of the British Officer in the First World War and The War Behind the Wire – a history of First World War British PoWs in Germany.

Emeritus Professor John Derry, Newcastle University
Lecture: Hindenburg and Ludendorff: A brilliant partnership?
Professor Derry studied History at Cambridge and was appointed lecturer at LSe in 1961 before returning to Cambridge to a lectureship and eventually becoming Professor of Histoy at Newcastle University.

Dr. Edward Madigan, Commonwealth War Graves Commission
Lecture: The better part of valour: British understandings of courage during WW1
Dr. Madigan is Resident Historian at CWGC and his work combines military, cultural and social history. His research interests include the British and Irish experience and memory of the First World War, and British religious faith, morality and identity in wartime.

Professor Andrew Lambert King’s College London
Lecture: The Royal Navy during WWI
Professor Lambert BA (Law) MA, PhD, is Laughton Professor of Naval History in the Department of War Studies at King’s College, London. He has taught at the University of West of England, the Royal Naval Staff College, and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

Professor Joanna Bourke, Birkbeck College London
Lecture: Armistice and disability
Professor Joanna Bourke is Professor of History in the Department of History, Classics and Archaeology at Birkbeck College. In 2011, she published a history of what it means to be human, exploring human-animal relations between 1791 and the present. She is currently engaged in a project investigating the history of pain.
