Booking is open for the preview of a new exhibition in London paying tribute to doctors who administered anaesthetics and pain relief to the wounded at the Battle of the Somme.
The Price of a Mile will explore the facilities and techniques used by medical teams to treat hundreds of thousands of injured soldiers during the 141-day battle in 1916.
It’s the third in a series of First World War Centenary medical exhibitions organised by the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI).
Speakers at the launch event on 7 October 2016 include Dr Emily Mayhew, author of Wounded: The Long Journey Home from the War, exploring the story of wounded soldiers from the frontline to recovery at home, and those who cared for them.
There will also be a panel discussion led by Professor Roger Kneebone, Professor of Surgical Education and Engagement Science at Imperial College London, and Dr Jean Horton, retired anaesthetist and past President of the History of Anaesthesia Society.
