The Austrian Black Cross

The Austrian Black Cross or Österreichische Schwarze Kreuz (ÖSK) was established in 1919 to create “dignified burial sites” for the war dead.

Based in Vienna, the (ÖSK) describes itself as “non-partisan and non-denominational and pursues charitable objectives”.

The organisation carries out the preservation and “establishment of cemeteries and other war graves facilities for citizens of all nations and creeds”, both within Austria and aborad.

The ÖSK considers itself as “contributing to the maintenance and consolidation of peace”.
