A poppy-like rose cultivated for the Centenary of Talbot House, the WW1 British soldiers’ club in Poperinge, will be presented to the Lord Mayor of London on June 11th 2015.
The presentation will be made as part of a traditional ceremony involving the church of All Hallows by the Tower where the Rev. Philip ‘Tubby’ Clayton, co-founder of ‘Toc H’, served as vicar for 40 years after the Great War
In an event dating from the Middle Ages, a rose is presented annually to the Lord Mayor at the Mansion House in the City of London
The Talbot House rose recalls the beauty of the Toc H garden for troops used to the mud of the Flanders trenches.
.On June 27th, it will be officially inaugurated at the former ‘Every Man’s Club’ in Poperinge.
