The Scotsman publishes an article which suggests that the Centenary of the First World War and the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn may “clash”.
The article considers the context which the anniversaries will be marked within in 2014.
With a nationalist government in Scotland, the Scottish Nationalist Party (SNP), and the Scottish referendum on independence in 2014, the article highlights that the SNP may choose to commemorate Bannockburn (a Scottish victory over the English), more prominently than the Centenary of the First World War.
