A project to mark the Centenary in the English borough of Windsor and Maidenhead will map the 186 First World War memorial sites in the area and list the names of fallen soldiers on an interactive website.
The project, entitled ‘For King and Country: the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead during the First World War’, will see volunteers researching the individual stories of soldiers who fought in the conflict. This information will then be sorted and made available online.
Councillor Christine Bateson said of the project: “This new interactive website will be a valuable resource telling the stories behind the names on our First World War memorials”.
“I am sure that our army of volunteers will once again turn out in force to support this fascinating and important research as part of the Royal Borough’s commemorations of the centenary of the start of the First Word War”.
