Details of the upcoming tour of Canada by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall have been released.
Prince Charles and Camilla will be in Canada from the 18th – 21st May 2014 and will take part in events commemorate the Centenary of the First World War and the 150th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada.
They will visit Halifax and Pictou County in Nova Scotia (May 18th and 19th); Charlottetown, Bonshaw, and Cornwall in Prince Edward Island (May 19th and 20th); and Winnipeg in Manitoba (May 20th and 21st).
Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, said: “The 2014 Royal Tour of Their Royal Highnesses will not only highlight Canada’s achievements and our shared heritage, but will also look to the future of Canada and how we will continue together to build a country that is the envy of the world”.
The Minister also said that the tour would give Canadians the opportunity to learn more about their system of constitutional monarchy, “which is the pillar of our system of government”.
Canada will be marking a number of anniversaries over the next few years, including the Centenary of the First World War, with the focus expected to be on the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 2017.
As a Dominion of the British Empire in 1914, Canada automatically entered the conflict in Europe with Britain’s declaration of war on Germany on the 4th August.
Further details of the tour are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
