The UKs National Lottery Heritage Fund has provided 835,600 for restoration work to take place on the English city of Prestons war memorial, reports The Lancashire Evening Post.
The council has put forward the remaining 124,000 needed and is confident the memorial will be renovated in time for the Centenary events scheduled for 2014.
A portion of the funding will also be spent on activities and workshops to inform and educate people about the wars impact on Preston.
