The National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial, Kansas City, USA, is dedicated to the preservation of the history of the First World War.
The museum’s mission statement is to “…inspire thought, dialogue, and learning to make the experiences of the World War I era meaningful and relevant for present and future generations…”.
One of the museum’s most poignant features is a glass bridge, from which the public views an area filled with 9 000 poppies (each representing 1000 fallen soldiers). The museum also includes many other interactive features, such as an interactive portrait gallery and the ‘horizon theater’.
Upcoming special exhibitions include ‘Harmonies of the Homefront’ running from February to October 2013 and ‘World War I All-Stars: Sports and the Inter-Allied Games’, which will be open until the end of March 2013.
