More photos from Centenary News of the UK national commemorations in Manchester marking the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme on July 1st 2016.

Wreath-laying ceremonies were held at the Cenotaph in St Peter’s Square.

The ‘Experience Field’ at Heaton Park hosted talks and displays remembering the soldiers of WW1 and the war effort on the home front.

Exhibitors and visitors had to brave torrential downpours, adding a touch of realism to Heaton Park, used as a military training ground during the Great War.

Some of the 5,000 memorial tiles laid in the ‘Path of the Remembered’, chosen from designs contributed by the public.
