Minister Warns Against Separate ‘Centenaries’, N.Ireland

Northern Irish Minister Hugo Swire says dissidents might use Centenary events for their own separatist agenda.

The issue was raised by the Stormont Minister regarding the forthcoming commemorations of the 1916 Battle of the Somme and the Easter Rising.

Speaking in Stormont, Swire said that there was a danger that there were those that would seek to undermine the peace process and use Centenary events to further their own ‘regressive agenda’ calling dissidents, “the people that oppose forbearance and oppose conciliation.”
