As well as displaying the Tower of London Poppies, Imperial War Museums announce they will also hold special events and exhibitions in 2018 to mark the end of the First World War Centenary.
Entitled Making a New World, the programme will explore how the Great War has shaped the society we live in today, with exhibitions at IWM sites in London and Manchester.
Opening at IWM North in July 2018, Lest We Forget will focus on potent symbols of remembrance, notably the poppy and two-minute silence – considering how they’ve endured since the Armistice, but also sparked controversy.
Highlights of the exhibition will include works of art intended for a ‘Hall of Remembrance’ that was never realised.

Generation Hope: Life after the First World War – at IWM London from September 2018 – will explore post-war aspirations for greater social and political freedoms, from the immediate aftermath of WW1 to the ‘Roaring Twenties’.
Developments in art, literature, film, fashion and technology will be contrasted with the rise in political extremism and economic turmoil.
A sound installation is also planned, enabling visitors to hear the voices of those who lived through the Great War.
Alongside these exhibitions, IWM will be holding live events, including public debate, to reflect on the nature of silence and remembrance.
‘Lest We Forget’ opens at IWM North, Manchester, on 27 July 2018. The Tower of London Poppy sculpture, ‘Wave’, will be unveiled on September 8.
‘Generation Hope: Life after the First World War’ will be at IWM London from 21 September 2018. The poppy installation ‘Weeping Window’ will be displayed from October 6.
