The Lange Max Museum, a new project focussing on a German aspect of the First World War, opens in Belgium this weekend, October 25/26th 2014.
The museum, in Koeklare, West Flanders, takes its name from a large artillery gun, nicknamed Lange Max. It was designed to bombard the French Channel port of Dunkerque, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) away.
The remains of the gun platform can still be seen. An exhibition looks at the German occupation of Koekelare, the organisation behind the front line and the production of supplies for the front.
The little bakehouse, which contains traces of the German presence, now serves as a multimedia room.
