International Peace Bureau

The International Peace Bureau, founded in 1891-92, is “dedicated to the vision of a World Without War” and plans to mark the Centenary of the First World War.

The International Peace Bureau has 300 member organisations in 70 countries. It has had UN Consultative Status since 1977 and is the Secretariat for the NGO Committee for Disarmament (Geneva).

Its main programme centres on “Disarmament for Sustainable Development”.

The Secretary-General of the International Peace Bureau, Colin Archer, told Centenary News in July 2013 that:

“We feel it is vital that the peace perspective [of the First World War should] not be overshadowed by commemorations of the war itself – those who tried to prevent the war must also be celebrated.”

“Of course, all those projects which draw the lessons in order to promote peace in our own time deserve equal recognition”.
