The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is inviting people to take part in a worldwide remembrance event on Armistice Day, using digital technology to create ‘a wave of light from Sydney to London.’
With a free app, photos can be shared on November 11 through social media in a worldwide tribute to the dead of the First and Second World Wars, employing the hashtag #HoldHighTheTorch.
Liz Woodfield, CWGC’s Director of Information and Communications, said: “For 100 years, the flame of remembrance has been a defining image for the CWGC. It forms part of the Commission’s official seal and symbolises our commitment to remembering those who died in the two world wars, today, tomorrow and forever.
“Hold High The Torch is designed to build on that legacy, and we want you to take part.”

This year’s event is part of projects marking the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s own Centenary. It was founded in May 1917, while the First World War was still being fought.
CWGC’s Centenary exhibition – ‘For Then, For Now, Forever’ – continues until 19 November 2017 at the Canada Building, Brookwood Military Cemetery, near Woking, in the UK.
