Liverpool Hope University, England, will host a one day symposium exploring ‘Food and the First World War’.
The symposium will be held on the 2nd April 2014.
The event aims to provide an “in-depth study of this most compelling and controversial conflict from new and refreshing angles”.
The role of food and drink on the Western Front “and beyond” will be explored by eight speakers who will consider the “moral, nutritional, social and economic role of food and drink in the First World War”.
Topics range from substitute foodstuffs to farming, from troops’ diets to ‘fair’ distribution, and from alcoholic overindulgence to temperance.
The conference is sponsored the Society for the Study of French History and the Economic History Society.
