Il Giornale Vicenza reports that extracts from the diary of the Italian First World War soldier, Captain Picone, will illuminate a First World War military path – “52 Galleries Street” – which he helped to construct.
The military trail is located on the masif of Pasubio, Vicenza, northern Italy. The route, which links nozzle Campiglia and Pasubio, was originally constructed as its southern route helped to avoid Austro-Hungarian artillery fire during the First World War.
The trail navigates mountainous terrain and served as an important supply line for Italian forces during the conflict.
Captain Picone helped lead the construction of the path in 1917.
Now, the Administration of Valli del Pasubio has announced that €100,000 will be provided to illuminate the mountainside road with extract’s of Picone’s diary to mark the Centenary of the First World War.
