EFG1914 Project To Digitise WW1 Film Archives

EFG1914 is the follow-up project of EFG – The European Film Gateway (2008-2011). 26 partners around Europe are contributing to the project, among them 20 film archives that will digitise over 600 hours of film from the First World War: newsreels, documentaries, propaganda films, and fiction films.

During the war years, a considerable amount of film material was produced. Unfortunately, most of this historical material has not survived. Many of the preserved films are analogue, and EFG1914 aims to make them more accesible through the digitising project. The films are expected to become available over the next two years, just in time for the start of the centenary.
