In a video interview with Centenary News, the Director-General of the Imperial War Museum, Diane Lees, explains the museum’s approach to marking the Centenary of the First World War.
The Director-General told Centenary News that “you can’t understand the world today unless you understand the causes, course and consequences of the First World War”.
She also admitted that the Imperial War Museum was entering “new territory” with the marking of the Centenary, as anniversaries usually only last one day.
The Director-General discussed the role the museum will be taking at a national level and emphasised that it seeks to be “as inclusive of everybody’s stories as possible”.
Ashlee Godwin, Assistant Editor at the Royal United Services Institute, carried out the interview, which can be watched in full here.
