Centenary News speaks to Taylor Downing, author of ‘Secret Warriors’

Centenary News’ Books Editor, Eleanor Baggley, has spoken to author Taylor Downing about his latest publication, Secret Warriors.

Focusing on the huge scientific and technological advancements made during the First World War, the book explores the overarching narrative of how aviators, code-breakers, scientists, engineers and chemists (amongst others), contributed to the war effort.

When interviewed, Mr. Downing said that his book was a study of the “early boffins”, and that he hopes his book will add a new layer of understanding about the war.

Peppered with anecdotal evidence alongside the facts, Secret Warriors is “entertaining as well as absorbing”, Eleanor writes in her review.

“It is a book to read once for the facts and read again for the people and stories”.
