8th January 1918: US President Woodrow Wilson sets out the Fourteen Points, his vision for a new world order after the Great War.

3rd March 1918: Russian involvement in the First World War formally ended with the signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.

21st March 1918: The German ‘Spring Offensive’ (Operation Michael) saw substantial German gains at the expense of the Allies on the Western Front.

8th August 1918: The first in a series of Allied offensives culminating in the Armistice that ended the First World War was launched against German positions near the French city of Amiens.

24th October 1918: The Battle of Vittorio Veneto saw the Italian army rout the Austro-Hungarian army, ultimately bringing to a close the conflict on the Italian Front.

30th October 1918: The Ottoman Empire signs the Armistice of Mudros.

31st October 1918: The Austro-Hungarian Empire is officially dissolved.

3rd November 1918: The Armistice of Villa Giusti is signed. (which took effect 24 hours after being signed) saw the end of hostilities between Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

9th November 1918: The German Kaiser, Wilhelm II, abdicates his crown.
