British historian Malcolm Goode, from Staffordshire, is writing a book to commemorate the centenary.
Former policeman, college lecturer and parish councillor Mr. Goode hopes to publish a book documenting Burton-Upon-Trent’s role in WW1. Reported in the Burton Mail newspaper, Goode says that the project has been ‘fascinating’, “I have ploughed through many old documents and records for my research. It has been painstaking but, at the same time, very rewarding.”
He adds that the centenary will be the right occasion to publish his book, “There will be an awful lot done across towns and cities in Britain to mark the 100th anniversary of the war’s outbreak. I want there to be some kind of remembrance ceremony in Burton. 64 Burtonians were killed in 1914 and we owe it to them to remember them.”
