British First World War PoW sees dying mother after deal with Kaiser

The Telegraph reports that a British PoW promised to return to captivity in Germany if he was given the opportunity to see his dying mother in England.

After writing to the Kaiser, Captain Robert Campbell was granted two weeks of leave in 1916, and returned to Germany as promised, where he remained until the 1918 Armistice.
