British Field Marshal Douglas Haig’s First World War diary has been added to the UK Memory of the World Register.
This online Register is run by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
The diary of the Commander-in-Chief of the British Expeditionary Force is currently held by the National Library of Scotland.
A press release from the National Library stated that the diary is “vital to understanding some of the key decisions taken during the war. It offers a unique insight into both the conduct of the war and one of the most controversial generals in the British army’s entire history”.
