A leading social historian of black British history has accused the mainstream media of largely ignoring his latest publication, Black Poppies – Britain’s Black Community and the Great War.
The book, which was published by History Press in 2014, explores the contribution made by black men and women from Britain during the First World War.
In an interview with The Voice, Britain’s only national black weekly newspaper, Stephen Bourne said: “It has shocked me. There has been a complete lack of interest. This is not about me – it’s about the people in the book, who I feel are being discriminated against.”
