A new ANZAC website has been launched by the Australian state of Queensland as part of its preparations to mark the Centenary. The government in Brisbane says the aim is to provide the state with a focal point for promoting and obtaining information about events commemorating the 100th anniversary of the First World War between 2014 and 2018.
The Premier of Queensland, Campbell Newman, said Queenslanders would have the opportunity to acknowledge the sacrifices of those who served Australia in the conflict and the significant contribution of those on the home front.
The website will enable access to a programme of state grants designed to fund activities marking the centenary. Mr Newman made clear that the government of Queensland would support communities and organisations which wanted to enhance their commemorative events and projects.
“The ANZAC values are one of the key Queensland themes for the commemorations – resilience, teamwork, courage, sacrifice, mateship, service, initiative, compassion, adaptability and toughness,” he said.
“The government focus on the ANZAC spirit between 2014 and 2018 will provide a unifying inspiration for Queenslanders of all backgrounds and ethnicities across the state.”
