‘It is not a question of judging but bringing together’ – the newspaper LibĂ©ration highlights President Hollande’s appeal to remember all those who fought at the Battle of the Chemin des Dames in April 1917, including the soldiers later shot for mutiny.

French media widely note the significance of M. Hollande’s presence at the April 16 Centenary commemorations for the disastrous Nivelle Offensive, still a sensitive issue in France.

This was the first visit by a President of the Republic to a remembrance event on the Chemin des Dames, a battle in which M. Hollande’s own grandfather served.
