The 97th anniversary of the Armistice ending the First World War will be marked on Wednesday November 11th. A selection of events is listed below.
*In Paris, wreaths are traditionally laid at the tomb of the Unknown Warrior beneath the Arc de Triomphe.
*In Ypres, a special Last Post Ceremony takes place at the Menin Gate at 11am. More details of this and other Armistice Day events in Ypres can be found on the Last Post Association website.
*In London, the Western Front Association holds its traditional remembrance service at the Cenotaph. Two minutes silence is observed at towns and cities across the UK at 11am.
*A guided walk in London on the evening of November 10th will follow the route of the Last Journey of the Unknown Warrior through the UK capital in 1920.
*Ceremonies are also held at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra; Canada’s National War Memorial, Ottawa; Pukeahu National War Memorial Park in Wellington, New Zealand; and the US National WW1 Museum in Kansas City.
